A client sent me this message this week:
My immediate response was that it was a great idea! She and I had been having conversations about how she was feeling, so I knew she was at her wits end.
This is a common phenomenon these days. It wasn’t by coincidence that I had conversations with two other emerging executive leaders this week who are not feeling great at work either.
One is doing the work, and yet, thereโs a middle person that takes her work to the CEO. She doesnโt feel seen or valued.
In the third case, this client has accomplished more in her 2.5 years on the job than her predecessor did in the seven years. (That feedback came from someone who has been at the company for 20+ years). Notwithstanding this stellar performance, client is still being asked to do more.
It’s not uncommon to feel overwhelmed, stressed, and unmotivated at work these days, and sometimes to clear one’s head, it makes sense to take a mental health break to reset and recharge. It’s a positive step toward self-care and well-being.
On my hashtag#PickMyBrainFridays session tomorrow on LinkedIn Audio, I will be discussing the following seven ways to make the most of your mental health break:
โกDisconnect from Work
โกEngage in Mindfulness and Meditation
โกExplore Nature
โกPursue Personal Passions
โกReflect and Set Goals
โกConnect with Loved Ones
Seek Professional Help if Needed
Taking a mental health break is a valuable investment in yourself. Remember, if anything happens to you today, you will easily be replaced tomorrow.
Watch for my LinkedIn Audio post later today, and join the conversation. And, I might just have a mental health coach with me to answer your questions as well.
