What a great way to start my week!
Sunday afternoon after the package arrived, I couldn’t contain my excitement, so I asked my little photographer to snap this photo of me!
I am the recipient of the Outstanding Mentor Award from IMDOINGIT, a Mentor MATCH organization for Black professionals.
Since 2020, I have been mentoring and helping to shape the lives of some truly brilliant young professionals, most of whom have their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Seeing them grow into shining stars of professionalism and achievement has been one of the most rewarding parts of this journey.
As I say quite often, we should never be afraid to allow others to bask in the spotlight because the glow comes right back at you!
This heavy plaque that I am holding is the glow that has come back, and I am filled with gratitude and pride as I celebrate the achievements of these fine young professionals.
Our future is bright!
Thank you, Dami Eluyera, MBA, CSAP and IMDOINGIT, for this recognition and for your incredible work in empowering young Black professionals in so many ways. I am honoured to be part of your mission to create lasting impact in the community!
For anyone considering mentoring, here’s why Mentorship matters:
๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐๐:
๐นAccess to guidance and real-world insights.
๐นEncouragement to develop confidence and leadership skills.
๐นA safe space to explore ideas and set ambitious goals.
๐ ๐จ๐ซ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ง๐ญ๐จ๐ซ:
๐นA chance to reflect on your own journey and growth.
๐นDeep fulfillment from witnessing someone elseโs success.
๐นA strengthened sense of community and purpose.
My first rodeo in formal mentorship started with The Mentoring Group, which at the time, supported Internationally Trained Professionals. (๐Looking at you Nitin Dhora).
It was a fulfilling role as I engaged with and encouraged these highly-educated individuals to beat back the noise of “No Canadian experience” and focus on their assets. While it wasn’t easy, some were able to enter the professions for which they were trained.
Mentoring is contagious. It’s an opportunity to shape lives – even if it’s one life at a time. Become one!
