😭I Lost My Top Leadership Voice Badge📛
So, I received a notification from LinkedIn last week that my “Top Leadership Voice” badge had expired.
I was not surprised since the badges only last for 60 days if you don’t contribute consistently.
For one split second, I felt a sense of loss, but then I quickly put the thought into perspective:
On the grand scale of priorities, how impactful was that loss?
How much time do I have to put into contributing articles to maintain a digital badge?
What impact does the loss of a badge really have on my ability to write about leadership?
I also asked myself, “What if TMU/Ryerson and Conestoga College decided I haven’t studied there in a while, so they are going to rescind my degree and diploma?”
I even went as far back as the University of the West Indies, and wondered what if, for whatever reason, they ask me to return the Public Relations Certificate I earned from them so many moons ago?
Then my thoughts turned to more serious issues, such as job seekers who have been experiencing bouts of job losses over the past several months.
Do these layoffs diminish the wealth of knowledge, experience, and expertise they have? No, they don’t!
Does the expiration of a badge diminish my knowledge, experience, and expertise? No!
Whether we lose a digital emblem, i.e. a “Top Voice Badge” or a job, it does not diminish who we are at our core.
Like our degrees and other academic credentials, the core essence of who we are does not expire. Let that sink in!
As nice as it is to have earned these badges, sometimes we have to put things into perspective.
What losses are you experiencing? Deep down, have they changed who you are?
