The Wright Career Solution

😳 Have you fallen into the POOR trap?

😳 Have you fallen into the POOR trap?

Hear me out…

Recently, I listened to Jacqueline Walters,

Canada’s International Kickboxing Referee, speak at EWIIN’s monthly meeting. She shared an acronym that resonated with me: “POOR – Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly.”

It instantly took me back to my 2019 Visioning event, where the theme was hashtagWhyNotMe, when we focused on placing ourselves at the forefront for opportunities.

Many of us feel hesitant when new opportunities come our way. Sometimes, it’s due to self-doubt or negative self-talk. Other times, we might suggest someone else, rather than asking, “Why not me?” Reflecting on this, I was reminded of the many times I’ve chosen to say “Yes” to new opportunities, ideas, and even unexpected challenges.

Not every “Yes” led to success, but those that didn’t offered some very valuable lessons.

Now, it’s your turn. How often have you found yourself holding back?

When we’re invited to step outside our comfort zones or when an inspiring idea pops into our heads, we sometimes second-guess ourselves.

But each time we say “Yes,” we open doors to growth and discovery.

Here’s what’s possible when we say “Yes”:

↳ Grow Confidence: Saying “Yes” helps us build skills, ease self-doubt, and grow resilience, preparing us for bigger roles.

↳ Discover Hidden Talents: New experiences reveal strengths and expand self-awareness, showing us what we’re capable of.

↳ New People and Opportunities: Each “Yes” connects us with new people, and opportunities, planting seeds for future growth.

↳ Stand Out: Embracing opportunities shows courage and a proactive mindset, making us valuable and resourceful team members.

↳ No Regrets: Saying “Yes” frees us from “What if?” Each choice adds to a story of growth and resilience.

This photo was taken at Diana Yuen Kei Chan Summer Luncheon which represents one of the times I said “Yes”. It was at, which opened up the opportunity for me to meet Clevette Coombs (in the background), and many other GTA coaches and entrepreneurs who are now in my network.

Saying “Yes” shapes our growth, career, and confidence. Next time an opportunity arises, consider who you might meet and how you could grow. Say “Yes” and see where it leads!
