Ever had your idea completely ignored… until a male colleague said the exact same thing?
And suddenly, it’s brilliant?
It’s frustrating.
It’s disheartening.
And sadly, it’s common.
As a coach, I hear this from so many women. Their ideas get overlooked until someone else, usually a man, voices them.
Here’s the thing:
It’s not just about speaking up. Women are speaking up. The problem is how often they’re unheard.
So what can you do?
1. Own your ideas.
If someone else repeats your point, jump back in:
“Thank you for building on my idea. I mentioned this earlier, and I’d love to expand on it.”
2. Speak with authority.
Drop the “just” and the “I think.”
Replace “Maybe we could…” with “I recommend we…”
3. Find allies.
Work with supportive colleagues who can amplify your voice:
“That’s a great point [Your Name] made earlier.”
And if you’re in a position of influence, pay attention.
Notice whose voices get sidelined and make space for them.
Ever faced this situation? How did you handle it?
