Commitment and Collaboration!
I was inspired to make this post when I read a similar experience by my colleague Gayle Draper, and one of her clients.
No one person can ‘do it’. It takes Commitment and Collaboration to achieve success.
I had the privilege to mentor one young lady through the hashtag ImDoingIt mentoring program launched by Dami Eluyera,.
My mentee was an employee at one of the Big 5 consulting firms. During our time together, she got a job with another company doing what she wanted to do. She has since been promoted.
Part of her story when she sought a promotion was being told, “You are too young; you are not yet ready for this, wait another six months!” Well, did she prove them wrong?
Think about that! How many times have you heard that on your own career journey? There’s always an excuse! Some people settle for that; others use it as fuel to propel them forward.
She did it, and my role in it was small.
My no-strings-attached-thank-you gift to her was a copy of 21 Resilient Women, a collaborative effort by 21 of women. Her response was:

I received the gift this week, unpacked it, then told her I will re-wrap it for the Christmas tree๐. Before doing so though, I took this snapshot of the book beside her gift ๐.
