Last Friday I cancelled one of my services that I have had for many years. On Sunday, I received this email:

Well, look when I am hearing that I am a valued client. The moment I called to cancel my service. They took me for granted all these years believing I would be a loyal customer for life!
Now, it is too late to explore options because the horse has already left the stable.
๐๐ฝLeaders, don’t make this mistake. When you have highly talented people around that you really want to keep, consider having retention or stay interviews with them before they decide to leave.
๐๐ฝIn fact, these should not be one-time occurrence, but frequent career conversations until it becomes routine. Donโt wait until they are going through the door to let them know how much you appreciate them and want them to stay.
๐๐ฝOnce you start having these conversations, listen carefully to what they are saying then commit to helping them get what they need to remain productive engaged and happy.
๐๐ฝWhen employees become disengaged, they will leave to find new opportunities where they can grow, learn new skills and engage in exciting work.

Having retention or stay interviews will eliminate the need for exit interviews.
