5 books that I have read (or re-read) this year that have helped me grow.
(They picked me up when the going got rough)
These books have guided my career and helped me become a better leader and professional.
And continues to help me coach other professionals for their career success.
Here’s a quick look at how each one has made a difference:
1. The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama
→ Michelle Obama’s insights on resilience and hope have been a beacon for me. Her stories and advice kept me motivated during tough times and reminded me to believe in my potential. (No explanation needed for this one.)
2. One Small Step Can Change Your Life by Robert Maurer
→ This book showed me the power of taking small, consistent steps. By focusing on manageable changes, I was able to build momentum and achieve big career goals, including landing some key roles. (Thanks to Jane Harnadek who gifted me this book years ago!)
3. The Power of Positive Thinking by Norman Vincent Peale
→ Peale’s classic taught me the value of optimism and self-belief. Keeping a positive mindset has helped me tackle challenges head-on and approach my career with confidence.
4. The Coaching Habit by Michael Bungay
→ This book transformed my approach to coaching. It offers practical techniques for having impactful conversations, which has improved my ability to support and develop others effectively.
5. Atomic Habits by James Clear
→ Clear’s approach to habit formation has been transformative. By making small, consistent changes, I’ve been able to develop better work habits and stay focused on my career goals, leading to roles I once thought were out of reach. (Gratitude to my son who recommended the Audible version.)
These books have been a huge help in my journey and still guide me today.
If you’re working towards your dream role, I really recommend checking them out.
What books have made a big difference for you? I’d love to hear about them!
