Spring has sprung!
What a great time to reflect on my W.O.T.Y. (Word of the Year), which is GRATEFUL.
On my birthday a couple of weeks ago, I spent more time than usual writing in my Gratitude Journal, and you bet, it was about being grateful. I began with this quote:
~Nishan Panwar
Worth framing!
Journaling is powerful. It quiets the mind, at least for me. It allows all those free-flowing thoughts to meander through my head, and then to write them down.
So, when I settled down to write about the things I was grateful for, these came up:
I am grateful for:
๐being able to see, hear, feel, speak and breathe (the things we sometimes take for granted).
๐Family, friends, colleagues, and some key people who have supported me in my endeavours.
๐The people I am surrounded by, and especially the ones who remind me to ‘eat the elephant’ one bite at a time, instead of trying to eat it all at once!
๐Being friends with several โgirlsโ from high school, one of whom when she called on my birthday, reminded me of the times we would decorate the beds of any girl in our dorm who had a birthday.
๐The career risks I took, many times not knowing where I would land. One huge risk was the decision to move to Canada without ever visiting the country!
๐Conestoga College for recognizing me twice for the work I do within the career space.
๐The opportunity to design and deliver career development workshops and conduct one-on-one coaching with staff at Toronto Metropolitan University last year.
๐To the five people, who connected with me because they were “inspired by my title” of Chief Encouragement Officer. Two are now clients, one wanted to discuss a collaboration and two were for informational interviews.
๐And now, I am grateful and excited to be creating the Aspire to GROW Leadership Academy as I continue to empower and inspire others through coaching. Sounds big and important, right? Big, No, Important, Yes! Another way of giving back for all the support and opportunities I have received throughout my career.
I even wrote how grateful I was to listen again to the Leah Smart‘s podcast interview with Dr. Myron Rolle, when he said, “Instead of comparing yourself to the next person…I think it’s prudent to stay in your lane, do what you do well perfect it, and help other people along the way.”
Let that sink in! “Stay in your lane…do what you do well…help other people along the way!”
Empowering!
Regardless of how things are going (or not going) don’t become so bogged down by the challenges of everyday life, that you forget to be grateful.
What are you grateful for?
